Book Review: Advanced Host Intrusion Prevention with CSA Emmett Dulaney They say that big things come in small packages, and this book is no exception. At fewer than 300 pages, this book is as concise and succinct a reference to Cisco Security Agent (CSA) as you’ll find. Currently, CSA is supported on the Microsoft platforms as well as Solaris and Red Hat. CSA is the product Cisco offers for an “endpoint protection” IPS (Intrusion Prevention System); it is not difficult to implement this software but can be arduous to master it. This book takes the approach of walking you through the implementation and all the way up to, and through, troubleshooting. Wed, 5 Jul 2006
Book Review: Essential Business Process Modeling Peter Salus Over the past 15 years, I have read all or part of about two dozen books on "improving the software process" or "modeling software production" or "process improvement" ... and, now, business process modeling. Save your money. Read "Dilbert" or "User Friendly" and you'll know as much as these folks are trying to push. Tue, 13 Dec 2005
Book Review: File System Forensic Analysis Kristy Westphal Before I even had this book in my hands, I was truly excited about it. I have used Autopsy and The Sleuth Kit for some time now in my forensic work, and I am a big fan. These free tools are straightforward and critical to any forensic investigation. Brian Carrier, the author of File System Forensic Analysis, also created these tools, so when I saw that he wrote an entire book on file systems, I was pumped! Who better than Carrier to detail a topic that has been sparsely documented? Tue, 11 Oct 2005
Book Review: Network Security Peter Salus It seems to me that there are several dramatically different kinds of "security" books — the highly specific (like Cheswick, Bellovin & Rubin on Firewalls), the mammothly comprehensive (like Bishop), the totally trivial (no examples, lest I embarrass someone), and the simply useful. Harrington's Network Security falls into this last category. Wed, 25 May 2005
